Runners come from all over Southern California and beyond to run in the race. Some wear outrageous costumes, while others dress like they would for any other running event. I ran in the Spring race two years ago with some friends and we decided to dress in eye-popping neon pink. We figured it would stand out even when covered in the brown mud.
I wish I was that skinny again!
Parking lots open at 6:30am, and the first wave starts at 8:00am. It's best to get there at least an hour before your start time to make sure you're parked and ready to run. The waves are as follows:
8:00am - Non-timed Teams & Individuals
9:00am - Timed Individuals
10:00am - Timed Teams
11:00am - Non-Timed Individuals
12:00pm, 1:15pm, and 2:00pm - Non-Timed Teams
3:00pm - Non-timed Individuals & Teams
There is also the "Mud Puddles" kids run at 1:00pm for ages 2-12.
Aside from the races there are lots of different food vendors, the Action Sports and Eco Fair and a beer garden. The last time I ran this race we had so much fun hanging out afterwards with friends. And admission is free for spectators, although I don't think that includes the beer garden.
Want to run it for free? I'm giving away a code good for one registration! ($69.00 value!) Just follow the directions on the Rafflecopter form to be entered and good luck!
Disclaimer: I was provided with free registration for myself and one guest to run the race. All opinions are my own and not influenced in any way. Pictures courtesy of Irvine Lake Mud Run.

The one and only mud run I have done is the Merril Down & Dirty 5K at Castaic Lake back in April 2011.
Yes, and I love them! My goal is to do 4 races that day, one of them is IRVINE LAKE MUD RUN, but I can't afford all of them :(
Not yet!! Hoping to run with you!
I have never participated in a mud run but have always wanted to. Everyone raves about how much fun they have. It may be just enough fun to help me forget that I am running!
