"Change begins with a whisper."
That's the tag line for "The Help." Set in Jackson, Mississippi, during the 1960s, “The Help” chronicles the relationship between three different and extraordinary women who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project that breaks societal rules and puts them all at risk.
I had the pleasure of attending an advance screening this past Saturday while in San Diego for the 2011 BlogHer conference. I was pre-warned that it would be a tear-jerker, and there were even tissues all over the place. I didn't think to grab any, because even though I almost always tear up at movies, it's never to the point of needing a wad of tissues.
Was I ever wrong.
My friends laughed at me as I started to tear up at the first preview. And then again in the very first scene. I could already feel the emotions coming through. Something about Cecily Tyson's voice.
I don't want to give anything away, but I will say that by the end of the movie, I had already gone through several tissues, and was in desperate need of some new ones. I laughed, I cried (a lot), and was moved beyond words. What makes this movie so heartwarming and special is that it's not that far from real events. The characters in the movie could very well be real people, and they are all relatable in some way.
"The Help" is in theaters, now! Grab your mom, your best friend, your teenage daughter, or even your husband if he's willing, and go see this movie.

I'd like to see this with my sister but she lives elsewhere so I'll most likely see it by myself. I REALLY want to see it though! Glad to hear it's as good as it looks.
