Mamavation Monday 4/11/11: Nutrition

The following post is in response to this week's Mamavation Blogging Carnival question. If you'd like to read my weight loss update you can click here for that.

How would you like to alter your family’s nutrition and eating habits? Do you have a plan to do this?

I would definitely like to make a few alterations to my family's nutrition and eating habits. It's about 50/50 in my family when it comes to experimenting with new and healthy foods. My 5 year old and I will gladly and excitedly try any new food at least once. And we usually like them. My 2 year old and my husband are a little more stubborn. I can at least get my husband to TRY things, with a little coaxing. Okay, a lot of coaxing. My 2 year old is the hardest to deal with. Often times he will barely even eat his dinner, which can be frustrating. I always put veggies on his plate for each meal. Whether he eats them or not is another story.

I try to make it really easy for my family to make healthy eating choices. My pantry is not stocked with empty calories and sugary products. Actually, there aren't many snacks in my pantry at all because most of our snack food is fruits, veggies and yogurts. I do, however, always have a variety of fried fruits and nuts, pretzels, baked tortilla chips, and Orville Redenbacher's Gourmet Popping Corn. Even my 2 year old can't resist a freshly popped bag of Smart Pop.

But back to my point. It definitely is not easy to get my entire family on board with my healthy eating plans. Some of them are stuck in their ways after 30 years of meat and potatoes, and others are just asserting their new found independence. All I can do is present them with as many healthy and yummy options as possible and hope they find some that they like.

And sometimes I sneak extra veggies into their spaghetti sauce.

I always sneak veggies into sauce. It is hard with toddlers. I think we're doing good by always offering healthy choices. Great post!

I'm right there with you sister! My mother and I are really good at trying new things and eating healthy, but when it comes to my sister and father, they are forever STUCK in their ways.

We've pretty much given up on them unfortunately O.o

Way to go on the healthy choices. Sounds like you have a bit of a jump start. It is definitely hard to get everyone involved especially the older children/spouse that may already be use to eating a certain way. I regret that now. :( Hope you can get everyone doing it.
