It's kind of funny that I'm writing about luck again. I really do feel like an incredibly lucky person. I'm reminded every day when I look at my kids, but it's more than too. I've had more "close calls" than I would like in my short life so far, but I've always come out undamaged. (Knocking on wood!)
Just the other night my husband and I went down to the Gaslamp district in San Diego for a friend's birthday celebration. If you don't know what that is, it's a super trendy spot filled with bars and restaurants and other fun places. On a Saturday night you either pay for parking, or get super lucky and find a free spot on the street. We were hoping for free, because we didn't have a lot of extra money to spend on our night out. After driving around on the street we decided we weren't going to have any luck. We pulled into a $10 lot and my husband went to the machine to buy a ticket. Well not only was there already a paid-for ticket left in the machine, but there was no one around to claim it. It had been paid for at 8:07, over an hour before we got there! We went ahead and took it, thanking our lucky stars.
We thought we had used up our luck earlier that morning! Driving around, we saw a funny sign and I wanted to take a picture of it. Hubby pulled over in a neighborhood and I hopped out to snap a quick photo. He drove closer to meet me and I got back into the car when I was done. For some reason he decided to go back towards the neighborhood and he saw something shiny in the middle of the street. He looked down and it was my iPhone. Untouched, even though I had seen several cars pull in and out of that neighborhood. We didn't even have to get out of the car because someone was crossing the street at that moment and handed it to us. We joked that if it was my husband's phone it would have just been smashed because that's the kind of luck he usually has.
These are just two of the most recent examples of why I feel so lucky. I definitely feel like there's someone out there, watching out for me because I've made it out of so many sticky situations. When I was younger I actually walked away from a car accident that was so horrible that people who saw the scene thought we would have died. I thank my lucky stars (and God) for still being alive.
