Beauty-Full Monday - Resveratrol

I admit, I like to check my spam mail. I like to see what kind of random junk someone is trying to sell me through email. Lately I've been getting a lot of emails saying "Lose weight! Live forever! Take Resveratrol!"

It peaked my interest because I'm actually very familiar with Resveratrol as an ingredient in skin care products. While it seems to be the new big thing in anti-aging right now, it's been around for years. And if you like red wine, well then you've been getting your dosage already.

So what is Resveratrol?

Resveratrol is a substance found in the skins of grapes and in certain other plants, berries and nuts. It is produced by the plant to protect itself against pathogens, injury, stress, and other harmful situations. It has been widely studied, and is found to have antioxidant properties, anti-aging properties, and is rumored to be a possible treatment and prevention for cancer.

Despite the sudden outbreak of companies using this ingredient in their product, it's not a miracle drug. However, it has been around for many years. I used to work with a company who used it in their anti-aging products. I have personally seen amazing results with my customers who used these products. It is used by your skin the same way that plants use it, to protect against bacteria and free radicals, and to repair damage.

Do I really need it?

Short answer, no. You're not going to drop 50 pounds, look and feel 10 years younger, or live forever. I do believe that it has great benefits, many which have been proven by multiple studies. But don't go digging through your spam mail, yet! So many shady companies are trying to jump on the bandwagon and get your dollars. The truth is, these supplements aren't as effective as the Resveratrol compound used in the studies. Once it's hit by oxygen, it decays quickly, and loses most of it's amazing properties.

The best way to add it into your diet is the natural way. Eat some red grapes, peanuts, mulberries, or have a glass of red wine. These are all good for you anyway, and if you're eating a healthy diet anyway, it will be better for you in the long run.

In my first post I had a little giveaway, and here are your winners!
