Amanda over at Garibay Soup asked us to give some of our best blogging advice. I'm no expert or anything, but I thought I could give my advice on how to start doing reviews. Unfortunately you don't just wake up one day and have 50 emails from companies asking you to review their product. (Wouldn't that be nice!) It takes a bit of work, but it's fun, and before you know it you'll be reviewing too!
The first step is to practice reviewing whatever you can. Did you buy a new diaper bag and you are just in love with it? Review it! Did you find a new product at the store that is making your life easier? Review it! Companies like to see other reviews you've done, and even if you're not being compensated for it, you're getting great practice and you're building a repertoire with your readers. They're the ones who are going to ultimately be trying that product, and deciding for themselves how they like that. You want them to trust you!
You can also ask your friends. Do you know someone who works from home selling Avon, Tupperware, etc? Ask if they'd let you review a product. Or maybe you know someone who runs an Etsy store? Once you get comfortable asking your friends, you can move on to the next step.
Next you want to start contacting companies. Ask them if they'd be interested in participating in a review (and/or giveaway) on your blog. The worst thing they can do is say no. Most times though, if they're not interested you just won't hear anything back.
Once you've started getting more responses from your companies, and doing more reviews, remember to be honest. Don't make a product sound so amazing, just because you are getting something out of the deal. I feel like the best reviews tell me the positive and the negative of a product. Nothing is perfect, so it's nice to get both sides.
But most of all, keep at it. It won't happen overnight, so don't get discouraged! Have fun with it, and know you're helping spread the word on some awesome products!
I hope someone got some useful information out of this post! I can't wait to read some of the other bloggers' advice.
